Unemployable Music originally started off in 2007 by veteran DJ and artist Katy Walker, as a podcast (archived here). Since 2008, the label has released four electronic music projects and has also produced over 15 events. We collaborate with DJs, producers, singers, bands, and artists from Austin to NYC to Amsterdam. The collective functions now primarily as a label, music library and catalog in partnership with Things Are Changing Productions. The name unemployable is something that always makes people either laugh or go “hum, let me think about that one…”. The original idea was created out of the artist’s frustration with the capitalistic system; most artists are not highly “employable”. Innovation and creative expression are essential to evolution even if it doesn’t always appear that way.
“A revolution is to bring on change and we’re spiritual people trying to bring on spiritual change. It might sound like I’m a dreamer, but economic models have reached their height of evolution. Technology has evolved. What hasn’t evolved is mankind’s spirituality; everything is from 3,000 years ago”. – Damian Marley
