Shrine NYC is one of the more eccentric and fun places to perform. The Harlem venue is named after Fela Kuti’s club and performance space in Nigeria during the 70’s. Shrine curates unique bands and DJs, charges no cover and has a fantastic sound system. They are “dedicated to art and culture in all mediums: film, theater, dance, and live music. Shrine World Music Venue’s mission is to establish a positive creative atmosphere for both artists and audiences from all backgrounds.” Freecandy is located in a converted garage off Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn. The art space hosts underground parties with classic DJs such as Rich Medina and DJ Spinna.
